INFORMATION ON VARIOUS SUBJECTS
Definition of Different Essential Oil Grades:
Absolutes:
Oils are concentrated and highly aromatic produced through solvent extraction, or more traditionally, through enfleurage. Absolute oils are primarily used in the perfume industry to give scent to products. As they are very concentrated, they should not be applied directly to the skin. They can be used to treat many mental and physical symptoms using aromatherapy techniques. Any absolute oil can be diffused in an oil burner or diluted in a massage carrier oil and applied to the skin.
Certified Organic:
Aromatherapy / Therapeutic Use. Essential Oils 100% Pure and Organically Certified to have no pesticides.
Conventional:
Aromatherapy / Therapeutic Use. 100% Pure Essential Oil. Oil obtained from a single botanical source. Aroma profile will vary slightly from season to season and from geographical location to geographical location.
Cosmetic:
Used in perfumery, cosmetics, candle and soap making etc. Standardised essential oils have a certain aromatic profile (scent) to ensure consistency and reliability. The perfume industry requires a stadardised scent profile for most of the oils that it uses so that the perfume that they manufacture has a reliable scent. These oils are not fragrance oils (which are synthetic versions of an aroma profile).
Extracts:
Mainly used in perfumes or even in cooking.
Oleoresins:
Naturally occurring highly concentrated combination of oil and resin extracted from plants. Can be used as a food colouring, preparation of medicines and in soaps, candle making, and hair lotions.
Resinoids:
Extracts of resinous plant exudates (balsams, oleo gum resins, and natural oleoresins). Extracted with solvents. Usually highly viscous and sometimes diluted to improve their flow and processing properties. Resinoids are mainly used as perfume fixatives.
PS... Blends are pure Essential Oils in a Carrier Oil
